About R. Smith

Richard Smith  lives in Bonney Lake Washington.

He enjoys travel and each place he visits provides inspiration for his painting.

He travels to Alaska frequently and his roots are deep there.  He was born in western Alaska and lived in several villages throughout the state as he grew up.  For many years, starting in the sailboat era, he was a salmon fisherman in Bristol Bay.

As a child he watched his mother use her oil paints and begged until she let him paint with her.  He chose a career as a dentist and his own emergence as an artist came later in life.

Three years of formal art training and three more years working with a studio group gave him the technical foundation for his art.

One of his paintings "Beach Walk" was accepted in the Top 200 of the 2003 "Arts for the Parks" show in Jackson Wyoming.  It sold at the show.

Another painting, titled "Little River" was juried in to the 2005 "Oil Painters of America" National Show in Chicago.

He hopes that his paintings will communicate the same feeling to the viewer that he experienced as he planned and painted them.
